Glinda with a hint of Gaga! A letter from the Director.

Dear Friends,
I am enormously excited to be sharing Emerald City’s production of The Wizard of Oz with you and your family.  Since the day it was written, The Wizard of Oz has been an imaginative and timeless story. It has also always reflected and taken inspiration from the present.

After looking at contemporary architecture at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, L. Frank Baum created the Emerald City. The beloved 1939 film also used present day technological advancements, modern music, and fashion to make Dorothy’s story come to life.

For this 15th anniversary Emerald City Theatre production, we’ve also taken inspiration from contemporary sources. We imagined, “If Dorothy were to land in Oz in 2010 what kind of makeover might the characters get?” Similar to others who have interpreted these characters, we didn’t change who they are. Instead we bring a little Lady Gaga to Glinda and a little American Idol to these classic tunes.

I hope that you enjoy your holiday with what the Emerald City team has
created for you!

See you on the Yellow Brick Road!
